  • Hello Jon,
    I have a 1979 280 SE.  I am looking at purchasing a set of stock
    polished wheels from a 1989 300 E or a 1992 300 E. I would like to put
    these wheels on my 79 280 SE. I know the bolt pattern is the same but
    will the wheels fit properly without modification? I called Mercedes
    Benz parts department but they could not give me an answer. The wheels
    on my 280 are 14x6, the ones off the 300 E are 15x7. I have been told
    that the offset is the critical part and the wheels on my 79 are hub
    centric (not sure what that means).

  • The 300e wheel will not fit. The wheel from any 126 or 107 body will. The
    300e wheels only fit the 300e and some 190e's. Any 126 or 107 from 1986
    through 1991 will fit with no modification. JON
