    Subject: E320 overheating?

    Hello Doc,
I was checking out a used E320 this evening, 54,000 miles.
After about a 15 minute test drive we got out and let the engine idle.  I noticed that it was just over 80 and leveled at about 90.  Is this normal for this car?  I have a 90 300E and unless I am in the heat of a Texas summer, the gauge stays just below 80.
    Thank you for your assistance,
    John

  • Thanks for the email. It is not unusual for a MB to go to 90+ degrees. There are differences between your car and this one. The E320 has a more restricted air flow, MB used two large aux fans instead. What they created was huge garbage can. The bottom of the front cover for the fans catches everything and blocks the air. The debris them rots out the condenser. Nice huh. The Thermostat in that car is a 87 degree thermo any way. JON
