  • Jon: Love your web site!
        I own a 1991 300 SEL, having a terrible time with cooling
temperature. I have replaced radiator, thermostat (79C),clutch fan.  This
car is operating at 100C when I use the a/c.  Problem just started this
year.  Last summer no problem.  I even replaced the head gasket so we
could inspect head for problems.  Can you help with any suggestions or
    sites I might visit.    MIKE

  • HMMMMMM, You have covered most of the bases. Make sure that your aux. fan
switch on the a/c receiver drier is red in color and not green. The green
ones make the fan come on too late. Does the car run at a normal temp when
the a/c is off? I have had several cars like yours all with the 103 motor
that just run warm. Sometimes its bugs in the radiator, sometimes it's the
fan clutch, once is a while I get lucky and one of those fixes it before the
bill gets too high. There is a 75C thermostat available as well but I think
4* isn't going to make much difference. Check that switch on the drier and
    get back to me. JON

  • I have one more question for you.  I had someone clean my car this weekend
and they sprayed something on the wheels which damaged the finish.  What
product and process to you recommend to repaint or restore to a new finish? MIKE

  • That's too bad. The wheels, if they are original are a base coat/clear coat
paint. I would go to the store a buy some turtle wax rubbing and polishing
compounds. They look like cans of wax. It comes in plastic containers. One
is green and the other can is red. The red is much more harsh but will not
scratch the wheels. Then use the green to polish. This combination works
great for the brake dust too. Let me know if you ever get that over eating
thing fixed. Just make sure not to use MB coolant. It will rot the head
    gasket. JON
