Jon:  my mechanic has been replacing vacuum lines to the dash control panel in an effort to get the panel working properly...the car has a brand new vacuum pump and he has found some broken lines...where is the source of the vacuum for the switching box?...is it direct from the vacuum pump itself?....the broken lines are the ones running from the panel through the firewall and to a switch box.  I just bought the car and it is great shape except for the climate control problems.  The only thing that works is that the ac blows full blast out the defrost....no auto lo or hi, no temp control..no fan switch..etc....can you help me at all?

bulletDo you have a 123 climate control manual? In that manual the entire schematic is laid out for climate control. Unfortunately you are not the only one to have this problem. Alot of times the battery leaks acid down on and into that boot which contains the lines. Battery acid then gets sucked into the system, I hope yours did not do this. In the manual there is a step by step test procedure to check the five or six different vac. systems, however without that it will be difficult. When I fix these systems I have to be left alone with the manual and the car, any interruptions and I loose my train of thinking. Look inside the broken lines and check for a white crusty material, that is acid. If you want to call me I can try to give you and idea of the lines and the color of the lines if you want. The vac. for the climate control is a green line with a yellow stripe that is located over by the brake booster. One thing to do first is disable the door locks, these often leak vac. so bad that they affect the climate control as well. The door lock lines are yellow.  Good Luck JON

bulletI know that on www.ebay.com I have seen them. There is also a place in Seattle that may still have the book as they are no longer available from MB. The web site for the place that might have the book is www.books4cars.com.  Check out my other web sites. www.benzstuff.com and www.starmercedes.com   I just went to the site while I was typing this email and I found the manual, they call it "77-85 123 series air conditioning service manual by Mercedes"  Good Luck  and Thanks JON
